Design & construction of hand-stitched leather bags

5 day courses

On these courses students explore sources of inspiration including the history of bag styles leading to the development of their own design ideas. Students learn about different hand construction techniques,using  hand stitching and  thinning  ( paring) techniques. A range of  leathers and fittings will be available so students can, not only design bags, but  make them also . Students may design and  complete a new bag during the course or may prefer to develop ideas and focus on mastering techniques so complete one or more bags after the course .

  • Design & Pattern making
  • Choosing suitable leathers /linings/fittings
  • Construction options and making techniques, including cut, turned, piped and bound edges

These courses are suitable for those who are already experienced in bag making or who have attended a ‘ making hand stitched leathergoods’ course.
This course has a maximum of 4 students.
Course notes are provided.
Materials are not included in the course fee.
