Sharpening leather working tools & making jigs

This course will be run by Neil MacGregor. It is designed to help leatherwork students to sharpen and maintain their hand tools and to design and make simple aids/jigs to help with specific tasks in the workshop.

Tools covered include:

Knives :

  • the range of knives and what they are used for
  • steel quality
  • the sharpening angles
  • sharpening methods

    Edge Bevellers
    Race ( chanelling tools)
    Plough Gauge knives
    Splitter blades

    Jigs and aids for sharpening, preparing & stitching, tool covers, strop etc

    There will be 5 students on this course
